Why is writing so important to you?
The Special Needs Community is not the subject of many topics, and my goal is to change that. . I started writing to show the uniqueness that is within our Special Needs kids.
My first book Playtime with Nova was written to create an environment that encourages kids to play with kids that may not look like them - kids that may not talk like them - kids that may look different than them. Writing this book has created an inclusive dialogue that shows the uniqueness in one's ability. The main character, Nova, is nonverbal; however, she communicates by using gestures. Nova’s friends come over to play despite her inability to communicate verbally. They see her as they see themselves, someone who likes to have fun.
They learn Nova’s way of speaking and continue to have fun with her. You would love to embark on this journey with Nova and her friends.

Meet NovaHi, I am Nova Reign Dunnican. At 1 month old, I was diagnosed with a rare seizure disorder called Cyclin Dependent Kinase Like 5 (CDKL5). The doctors told me that I will always have seizures, limited ability to walk, poor muscle tone, intellectual disability, and the list goes on. To sum it up, I was told that I would have a global severe developmental delay. I know, most of you are wondering how I can play with such a disability. There are many ways in which a person with a disability can play, but first you must understand our world. This disorder does not define me. I am very fun to play with, and I would love to play with friends like you. Would you like to play with me?
